Cuba has a huge underwater platform with an area of more than 67,000 square kilometers. There is aseabed with more than 3,000 km of coral reefs, habitat of the biggest biological diversity among the islands of the Western hemisphere.
Water temperature ranges from 24 to 28.5 degrees Celsius, so scuba diving can be practiced wearing tight-fitted suits or 3-milimeter swimsuits. The average horizontal visibility is about 30 meters.
In winter, its waters reach the highest visibility and in summer the presence of tropical marine life increases, including turtles in several sites.
In Cuba's seas there are, according to estimates, more than 12,000 species of flora and marine wildlife, 1,030 of which are fish, almost 1,000 are crustaceans, 380 annelids, 375 seastars, 255 sponges, 60 stone corals, 55 gorgonians and 5 chelonians.
